Overview: The Hickory Course at Hamilton Farm is an 18-hole par-three layout in Gladstone, New Jersey, designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. The short course uses rolling ground, bunkers, water and a variety of approach distances to make every hole a serious test of trajectory and distance control. Its parkland setting sits within the same historic Somerset Hills property as the club's championship course.
History: The Hickory opened in 2001 alongside Hamilton Farm's Highlands Course. Hurdzan and Fry created it as a complete 18-hole course rather than a small practice loop, and for many years it held the distinction of being the only USGA-rated 18-hole par-three course in the United States.
Did You Know? One hole uses a former horse barn as an immovable feature near the green. The detail connects the short course to Hamilton Farm's earlier estate history and turns an existing building into part of the architectural problem.
