Overview: Halmstad Golfklubb’s Norra course is a classic west-coast layout where pine woodland, sandy ground and open stretches create a varied 18-hole walk. The course is known for its natural setting and for the way the holes use changes in width, direction and elevation to make position matter. Tree-lined corridors frame many tee shots, but the course is not a single-note forest test. The holes open and close visually, and the approach to each green asks for a different balance of aggression and restraint. It is a course that rewards a reliable long game and a patient eye around the greens.
History: The club dates to 1938, but the present Norra 18-hole routing was formed in 1967 when a new nine was combined with the final nine of the earlier course. The club’s historical material credits Rafael Sundblom, Nils Sköld, Frank Pennink and Donald A. Steel across the course’s development. That layered history explains why Norra feels both traditional and expanded rather than like a single-period design.
Did You Know? Halmstad’s setting beside Tylösand places the course in one of Sweden’s best-known seaside holiday areas. The landscape can look calm from the fairway, yet the coastal wind regularly changes the decisions required on exposed holes.
