Overview: The Preserve is a 6,535-yard, par-70 course built for a more relaxed resort experience than Mission Hills' longest tournament layouts. Wide fairways are punctuated by large, grass-faced bunkers, while palm plantings, flowering shrubs and ground cover dominate the visual setting. The course is player-friendly in its basic width, but the shaping around the greens still asks for a thoughtful approach and a controlled short game.
History: Brian Curley created The Preserve as one of ten Haikou layouts, with an arboretum-like brief distinct from the tournament course. Its brief was not to imitate the Blackstone tournament course, but to provide a modern, landscaped routing with an arboretum-like atmosphere. No independent launch date is published for The Preserve in the current course material.
Did You Know? The course's name refers to the way planting and landscaping carry the identity of the routing. Palm trees form the backbone of the design, while colourful shrubs soften bunker edges and help screen the resort environment. Those plantings provide shade and framing, but the official description makes clear that they are also the main architectural feature.
