Overview: Stone Quarry is a 6,029-yard, par-70 routing that turns an old volcanic quarry landscape into a distinctly industrial golf setting. Railroad-tie bunkers, sandy waste areas, abrupt mounds and small, contoured greens create the visual language, while steep rock walls, bridge details and abandoned mining equipment give the holes a strong sense of place. It is a sporty course that rewards imagination and positioning instead of asking for maximum length on every tee.
History: Brian Curley included Stone Quarry in the Haikou portfolio, using the old quarry and mining remnants as its defining setting. Mission Hills presents it as a tribute to Pete Dye, the team's mentor, and links the design to Dye-like features without calling it a Pete Dye course. The source does not publish a separate opening date, so the profile keeps the year open.
Did You Know? Railroad tracks, coal cars and other mining remnants are retained as part of the landscape rather than hidden during construction. That makes Stone Quarry unusual in a region better known for tropical resort scenery. The historical traces also help explain why the course has such a different feel from the adjacent palm, meadow and lava layouts.
