Overview: Hachioji Country Club presents sits among the hills of western Tokyo, where wooded corridors and the original landform create a quiet contrast with the metropolitan area around it. The documented back-yardage is 6,546 yards, and the layout uses a mix of one-green par threes and two-green par fours and fives.
History: Hachioji's course opened in 1960. Hachioji Country Club opened in September 1960 under the design of Hidetoshi Kobayashi. The surviving course description emphasizes the natural curves of the older terrain rather than a heavily manufactured modern shape. Its identity has remained that of a traditional members' course, with the trees, elevated greens and changing lies doing much of the strategic work.
Did You Know? The par-threes use large, undulating American-style greens, while many of the longer holes retain raised putting surfaces and two-green geometry. It is a small architectural detail, but it explains why distance control is repeatedly more important here than simply hitting the longest club.
