Overview: Gunung Geulis Country Club's West Course is an 18-hole, par-71 mountain layout in Ciawi, Bogor, West Java. The official course page describes it as the first golf course built on Bogor's hills, designed by Thomson, Wolveridge & Perret, and measuring 6,075 metres, approximately 6,644 yards. The routing uses the natural slopes rather than smoothing them away. Fairways rise and fall, the opening hole drops sharply from the tee toward the landing area, and bunkers, water and uneven lies make course management and club selection essential. West shares the resort with the separate East Course, but it has its own identity, scorecard and opening history.
History: West opened in 1992 as the original course in the Gunung Geulis complex; the club's current material describes the venue as a 36-hole resort with West and East layouts. East followed in 1994, creating the course pair that operates today. The property is set across roughly 450 hectares and includes cottages, accommodation, a clubhouse and other resort facilities. The West Course has therefore remained the older, more established routing within a destination that grew around it, rather than being a renamed version of the East Course.
Did You Know? The signature character of West is visible immediately: the official hole notes describe a short par four with the tee 50 to 60 metres above the fairway, offering a risky direct line for long hitters and a safer route around the fairway bunker. Elsewhere the course asks players to carry water, manage downhill lies and read sloped greens. Gunung Geulis means beautiful mountain, and the site sits around 400 to 500 metres above sea level beside the Cikeas River. Those natural features are the reason this course feels more like hillside golf than a flat urban layout.
