Overview: Gullane No. 1 climbs and crosses Gullane Hill above the Firth of Forth, combining elevated tees, firm links ground, wind and deep hazards. The higher holes provide long views toward Edinburgh, Muirfield and the coast, while the lower ground brings a different set of lies and angles. Its par-71 routing rewards accurate placement before the approach to each well-shaped green.
History: Gullane’s first 18-hole course was completed in 1884, and the club later invited Willie Park Jr. to lay out a second 18 holes on the hill. No. 1 has evolved through maintenance and improvements, but its essential relationship with the hill and coastal wind remains. The club has also been a regular venue for qualifying and national championships.
Did You Know? Gullane hosted the Scottish Open in 2015 and 2018, along with the Ladies Scottish Open in 2018. The course’s elevated sixth and seventh tees are also known for their views across the Firth of Forth toward Edinburgh.
