Gull Lake View (Stoatin Brae)

Overview: Stoatin Brae is the links-style course at Gull Lake View in Augusta, Michigan. The routing occupies a former apple orchard and uses rolling ground, native grass and exposed ridges to create a wind-aware layout with broad views. Renaissance Golf Design kept earthmoving restrained, so the holes read as a sequence of natural slopes, open approaches and elevated greens rather than manufactured stadium features.

History: A limited 12-hole loop was available in 2016, followed by the full 18-hole course in May 2017. The design and construction team came from Renaissance Golf Design, with Eric Iverson, Brian Schneider, Brian Slawnik and Don Placek associated with the project.

Did You Know? Stoatin Brae is a Scottish Gaelic phrase that means “grand hill.” The name fits the site’s high ground and open outlook, while the old orchard setting explains why the course has so few mature trees in play compared with many inland Michigan layouts.
