Overview: Gulf Gate's Red Course was a former 18-hole layout at 2550 Bispham Road in Sarasota. Historic course records describe a short, narrow routing of par fours with water and houses in play; it is no longer a playable course and should be treated as a historical listing rather than a current golf option.
History: The Gulf Gate golf facility opened in 1965 and was designed by E. D. Bishop Jr. It ultimately comprised 27 holes, with the Red Course accounting for 18 and the Blue Course for nine. The property closed in 2016 and later became the subject of preservation and redevelopment discussions.
Did You Know? The Red layout was recorded at par 58 and 2,579 yards, yet its short length did not mean a simple round: local reporting described narrow par fours, water hazards and a par-five sixth hole as part of the character of the course.
