Overview: Great Sapporo's Chitose layout carries a par-72 scorecard across 18 holes, about 20 minutes from New Chitose Airport. It measures 6,850 yards and was designed by the Japan Golf Promotion design department. The course sits on elevated ground with views across the surrounding plains, while the fairways and greens are separated by the natural shape of the site. Its position close to the airport makes it one of the more practical first-or-last rounds for a Hokkaido golf trip, without reducing the course to a mere travel convenience.
History: Great Sapporo opened on July 21, 1977 and is now part of the PGM operating group. Current course records describe it as an 18-hole layout with a single bentgrass green and seasonal winter closure. That operating history is separate from the design date: the present course retains its original identity while being managed within a modern national golf network.
Did You Know? Great Sapporo sits on a hill above the Chitose plain, so the round repeatedly opens into broad Hokkaido views before returning to the fairway corridors. The course's single bentgrass green and natural separation between holes keep the playing character coherent: the scenery is expansive, while the putting surfaces and changing ground still determine the score.
