Overview: GreatHorse occupies rolling country in Hampden, Massachusetts, with Brian Silva’s championship layout moving across open slopes and wooded edges. The private course combines long fairway corridors with shaped greens and substantial bunkering, giving the 7,522-yard par-72 routing a strong strategic emphasis. Its scale comes from the land and the golf itself rather than from a resort-style setting.
History: The property began as Hampden Country Club, which opened in 1973. The Antonacci family acquired it in 2012 and spent more than three years transforming the facility; GreatHorse opened in 2015 after the Silva-led redesign and wider redevelopment.
Did You Know? The name GreatHorse refers to Leonardo da Vinci’s Gran Cavallo, the enormous equestrian monument he planned for Milan. The club’s story therefore links a Massachusetts golf redevelopment to an unfinished Renaissance sculpture and the Antonacci family’s horse-breeding background.
