Overview: The Granite Nine is one of the three public-access nines at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy and Milton, Massachusetts. John Sanford shaped the nine across former quarries and capped landfill ground, using rock outcrops, elevated ground, and Boston-area views to give a short loop an unusually large sense of place.
History: The Granite Nine was completed and opened for play in 2004, following the Milton Nine in 2003 and preceding the Quincy Nine in 2006. Together the three nines form a 27-hole facility built through the reclamation of a difficult former industrial site.
Did You Know? Granite Links used roughly 13 million tons of soil excavated during Boston’s Big Dig to help cap and reshape the old landfill site. The Granite Nine is therefore part golf course, part landscape-reclamation project, and part piece of Boston infrastructure history.
