Overview: The West Course at The Grange Golf Club is a long-established Adelaide layout with wide corridors, lightly undulating ground and native vegetation shaping the strategic choices. Its modern identity comes from the contrast between open landing areas and more heavily tree-lined stretches, where the preferred line into the green depends on the angle of the drive. Mike Clayton Golf Designs led the major 2007 reconstruction, building on a course that has changed repeatedly since its opening.
History: The Grange began on thirteen rough holes in 1926, and the West Course opened in 1927. The club's official history records later work by Vern Morcom and a major 2007 redesign managed by Mike Clayton Golf Designs. That sequence is important because the present West is not simply an untouched 1927 relic; it is a modern course carrying a long Adelaide club tradition through several design chapters.
Did You Know? The West and East courses share one club property but are deliberately presented as different tests. The West's broad playing corridors give the first impression of freedom, yet its bunkers, native areas and changing tree lines reward a well-chosen side of the fairway. The course's strategic character is therefore easy to miss when judged only by its generous width.
