Overview: Grand Coyote Golf Riviera Maya is an 18-hole par-71 course in the coastal jungle outside Playa del Carmen. Nick Price designed the layout for a setting of paspalum turf, lakes, strategic bunkers and coastal wind. The current operator lists 7,043 yards and describes a course built to test both experienced and recreational players. Its character comes from the meeting of tropical vegetation and open playing corridors, with water and sand shaping the decisions without overwhelming the natural setting.
History: The course opened in 2011 as part of the Riviera Maya’s expanding resort-golf market. It was developed as a destination course near Playa del Carmen, with access to practice facilities, food and beverage and resort partnerships. The Nick Price design gives the property a clear architectural identity, while the use of paspalum reflects the practical demands of a warm, coastal climate. Current operator material continues to present the same 18-hole routing rather than a renamed or combined loop.
Did You Know? The fifth hole is identified by the operator as the signature hole, a par three with a lake and bunkers that demand precision. It captures the course’s central design idea in one shot: the golfer has to judge both carry and direction while the tropical setting makes the target look inviting. The course also uses GPS-equipped carts and paspalum grass, but the signature experience is the strategic relationship between the green, water and sand.
