Overview: Goodwood’s Park Course is an 18-hole parkland layout within the historic Sussex estate. Donald Steel designed a course that moves through mature trees, open lawns and the estate’s older landscape, creating a more sheltered and textured round than the exposed Downs Course. It is listed at par 72 and reaches 6,650 yards from the longest tees in the current course information. The challenge is built around changing lies and positioning, with the tree-lined setting making the angle into the green important even when the hole is not especially long.
History: The Park Course opened in 1989, after Goodwood’s earlier golf history had been established by the Downs Course and its 1914 James Braid design. Donald Steel’s layout gave the estate a second full course with a different character but a shared sense of place. Goodwood’s current golf story keeps the two routings distinct: the Downs is fast and undulating on the chalk, while the Park uses the older parkland around the country house estate.
Did You Know? Goodwood’s two courses let a golfer compare two landscape types in one destination. The Park uses the estate’s trees and formal parkland, while the Downs exposes the golfer to chalk hills and running ground. That contrast alters how a player plans tee shots, judges bounce and chooses the safest side of the fairway.
