Overview: Golfclub Ottenstein is an 18-hole wooded Waldviertel landscape near Rastenfeld. Designed by Keith Preston and Hans-Georg Erhardt, Preston’s first nine and Erhardt’s second nine meet in a course of meadows, forest, streams, and ponds with water decisions spread across the round.Ottenstein carries par 72 over about 6,874 yards, while water-affected greens and two design chapters make the round feel varied. The two design chapters remain compatible because both use the streams, ponds, and Waldviertel landform as strategic features rather than decoration.
History: Keith Preston’s first nine opened in 1991 and Hans-Georg Erhardt added the second nine in 1995. Lower Austria and club material document the staged construction, while the complete course later became a Leading Golf Course. Ottenstein’s 1991 and 1995 milestones make the architect field more precise than a single name. Preston and Erhardt each shaped a defined half of the course, and both remain relevant to its identity.
Did You Know? Six greens are affected by water hazards. Water is distributed through the layout as a series of decisions rather than one dominant lake. Ottenstein’s water hazards are spread around six greens, creating repeated small decisions instead of one dominant lake.
