Overview: Golfclub Oberstaufen-Steibis is a mountain course at roughly 900 metres in the Allgäu Alps, beneath the Nagelfluhkette. The 18 holes cross meadows and natural paths, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains from almost every part of the property. Bunkers, doglegs, slopes, water features and biotopes create a demanding but highly scenic round. The course’s challenge comes as much from the changing lies and elevation as from the scorecard distance.
History: The golf club was founded in 1989. Kurt Rossknecht built the first nine holes that year, fitting them into the steeply scenic site. Seven years later, Thomas Himmel added the second nine, creating the current 18-hole course. The two design phases explain the variety of the routing, which moves between intimate mountain holes and more open panoramic stretches.
Did You Know? The course plays to par 70, not par 72. That lower par is easy to overlook when the mountain setting makes the round feel so large, but it is part of the course’s deliberate identity as a technical Alpine test.
