Overview: Golf Club Lohersand lies between Rendsburg and Schleswig on a sandy heathland property shaped by inland dunes, heather, woodland and water. The 18-hole course moves through three contrasting landscapes, and the firm, free-draining ground gives the round a character that sits between heathland and inland links. Bernhard von Limburger’s original holes use compact green complexes and thoughtful bunkering, while the newer holes add open water features and broader movement through the landscape.
History: Founder Thomas Entz-von Zerssen began the club’s golf project on 17 October 1959 after commissioning Dr. Bernhard von Limburger to turn 33 hectares of heath and woodland into golf. In 2000, David Krause designed the additional nine holes, extending the property to a full 18-hole championship course. The older Limburger holes remain recognisable, including their distinctive raised green edges and short transitions between holes.
Did You Know? Lohersand is described by the Limburger-Courses association as the only course designed by Bernhard von Limburger in a pure heathland setting. That makes the vegetation and sandy landform part of the architecture, not merely a backdrop to it.
