Overview: Hamburg-Holm’s B and C courses form a traditional 18-hole parkland round on the edge of the Holmer Sandberge west of Hamburg. The ground is relatively open and gently shaped, with tree lines, bunkers, rough and integrated ponds defining the corridors. The sandy soil is an important practical advantage: it drains well and helps the course remain playable through the long northern German season. The layout is straightforward to read but rewards exact positioning.
History: Golfclub Hamburg-Holm was founded in 1986. The first construction phase on the 100-hectare site began in 1990, and the B and C courses were inaugurated in 1991 after being designed by Donald Harradine. Kurt Rossknecht later created the A nine, which opened in 1998 and completed the club’s 27-hole configuration. B and C were subsequently refined, including work on their closing holes.
Did You Know? The club says the sandy Geest soil absorbs water so effectively that play can often continue on summer greens through much of the winter. That drainage is one of the quiet engineering facts behind the course’s year-round character.
