Overview: Golfclub Am Mondsee is an 18-hole woodland and meadow parkland in the Salzkammergut around Mondsee. Designed by Max Graf Lamberg with Alois Reisenzahn, Lamberg and Reisenzahn used the natural contours of the Salzkammergut, alternating framed woodland holes with open mountain views.Mondsee’s record shows par 72 and about 6,833 yards, while woodland and open views create variety beyond those numbers. The course moves naturally between enclosed and open ground, allowing the mountain panorama to appear as part of the round rather than as a distant backdrop.
History: The club was founded in 1986 and the course opened on 13 May 1989. Official history records work around 1999 and 2000, followed by a major irrigation phase from 2006 to 2008. Mondsee’s irrigation and later maintenance phases are part of its history because they helped preserve the original design through changing expectations for course conditioning. The course remains recognizable as the 1989 layout.
Did You Know? The club preserves the exact opening date of 13 May 1989, while later irrigation work shows how the course developed beyond its first season. The official club history preserves 13 May 1989 as the opening date, an unusually exact detail for an Austrian course of this period.
