Overview: Berlin-Wannsee's Championship Course is a historic 18-hole parkland layout in the Grunewald, where mature woodland and the undulating ground around the Wannsee area create a quiet but exacting setting. The official scorecard lists par 72 and 6,016 metres from the white tees, while the hole guide shows how much of the character comes from position rather than brute length. Narrow tree-lined corridors, sloping landing areas and greens divided into distinct levels reward a controlled line from the tee and a carefully chosen approach. The course is not built around one repeated hazard. Some holes ask for patience through the trees, others use height change or water to punish a loose shot, and the closing stretch keeps the demand for precision intact.
History: The club traces its origins to 1895, but the present championship routing belongs to a later stage of the club's history. C.S. Butchard prepared plans for 18 holes at the Schäferberg in 1913 and 1914. After the move to Wannsee, Karl Hoffmann produced the execution plan in 1926, and a further nine-hole extension followed at Stölpchenweg in 1930. The official course page credits both architects, separating Butchard's original planning role from Hoffmann's execution and later expansion work. This distinction matters because the course's identity is often reduced to a single date or architect, even though the current routing grew through several connected phases.
Did You Know? The seventeenth is a short par 3 with water directly in front of a raised, stepped green. The club's hole guide notes that the feature was selected by Golf Magazin in July 2020 as one of Germany's most beautiful holes. Its appeal comes from the way the visual setting and the playing problem coincide: the water frames the target, while the height and multiple green levels make distance control decisive.
