Overview: The South Course at Golf and Country Club Seddiner See is an 18-hole championship layout in Michendorf, southwest of Berlin. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed it with a more American landscape vocabulary than the club's North Course, using broad scale, water and strategic hazards across a large property. The course is set within roughly 180 hectares, and the combination of open space, planted areas and lakes gives the South Course a spacious but deliberate character. Good positioning is needed to turn its generous landscape into scoring chances.
History: Golf and Country Club Seddiner See was founded in 1994. The North Course entered service in summer 1996 under architect Rainer Preissmann, followed by the South Course in spring 1997, with its clubhouse, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The two courses were built with eleven new lakes and extensive planting, changing former agricultural land into a major golf facility near Berlin. The South Course's design was intended to provide a more American-style contrast to the North's English landscape tradition.
Did You Know? Seddiner See's environmental history is unusually prominent for a modern course. The club records that its new lakes and planting increased the variety of bird species on the property, and the facility became Germany's first golf club to receive recognition from Audubon International. The South Course therefore belongs to a development story that includes habitat creation as well as championship golf.
