Overview: Golf & Spa Resort Cihelny lies in the Teplá River valley within the Slavkov Forest, a short distance from Karlovy Vary. Gary Player and his design company created an 18-hole course with a distinctly Scottish-style character, but the setting is inland and wooded rather than exposed links terrain. Water hazards, shaped obstacles and a technical sequence of holes provide the main challenge, while the surrounding forest gives the resort a quiet, secluded atmosphere.
History: The course was developed at the beginning of the 2000s and official golf information records its ceremonial opening in 2001, while resort material also refers to a 2002 opening. That small date difference is why the profile retains 2001 as the course year while describing the project as an early signature design in Czech golf. The resort later became known for combining championship golf with hotel and wellness facilities near the West Bohemian spa region.
Did You Know? Cihelny is described by the course material as a Scottish-type layout, a reference to its strategic shaping and use of hazards rather than to a coastal landscape. Its setting in the protected Slavkov Forest creates a strong contrast between the formal golf design and the natural valley, with the Teplá River helping define the character of the site.
