Overview: The Oberallgäu Course is the newer 18-hole championship layout at Golf Resort Sonnenalp-Oberallgäu. Kurt Rossknecht fitted the course into the foothills near Bolsterlang, using the existing forest, open meadows and dramatic Alpine views as the main design resources. The greens are carefully shaped and the raised tees encourage confident drives, but rough and bunkers punish imprecision. Compared with the older Sonnenalp course, Oberallgäu feels more expansive and more openly exposed to the mountain landscape.
History: The Oberallgäu course was developed as part of the resort’s expansion and opened in 2004. It joined the original Sonnenalp course, designed by Donald Harradine in 1975, and the six-hole Gundelsberg course to create a 42-hole golf resort. Rossknecht’s design has since become the second 18-hole pillar of the Sonnenalp-Oberallgäu golf destination.
Did You Know? The official resort describes Oberallgäu as 5,936 metres long and par 72. From the elevated tees, that moderate headline distance can feel much longer because the mountain air, slopes and uphill approaches change how the holes play.
