Overview: Golf Resort Karlovy Vary is a classic woodland course at Olšová Vrata, set below the Ore Mountains a few kilometres from the famous spa centre. The present 18-hole layout is shaped by forest, rolling ground and changing elevation, with narrow corridors that reward control and a clear understanding of the slopes. Its atmosphere combines the traditions of a historic Central European club with the more demanding geometry of a full championship course.
History: Golf in Karlovy Vary began with a nine-hole course established in 1904. The present site at Olšová Vrata was designed by the Paris-based architect C. Noskowski, with construction completed in the early 1930s and the formal opening recorded in the club’s history in 1935. The course later hosted the 1938 Czechoslovak Open, where Henry Cotton won and praised the variety of the layout.
Did You Know? Henry Cotton reportedly called the tenth hole the “stage” and described it as one of the finest holes in Europe after the 1938 championship. The hole’s reputation reflects the course’s combination of woodland setting, elevation and changing views, which has helped Karlovy Vary remain one of Czechia’s most historic golf venues.
