Overview: Golf Ptuj is an 18-hole, par-71 parkland course on the edge of Slovenia's oldest town. Bill Barnett's design uses the flat Drava plain, the Studenčica stream and several ponds to create a round in which water is part of the strategy rather than a single isolated hazard. Official Slovenian golf material records approximately 5,727 metres, or about 6,263 yards, and notes that water comes alongside 15 of the 18 holes. Mature vegetation and views toward Ptuj Castle add a strong sense of place, while the varied green approaches keep the course engaging beyond its tranquil setting.
History: Golf Ptuj's club history dates to 1992, when the course became part of the development of golf in northeastern Slovenia. The property covers about 52 hectares and has grown into a regular venue for tournament play as well as everyday rounds. From 2008 through 2012 it hosted Alps Tour events, giving the course an international competitive chapter. The layout remains closely connected to Ptuj itself: the medieval castle, the old town and the surrounding river landscape help distinguish it from more enclosed inland courses.
Did You Know? The 14th is Golf Ptuj's signature hole, a par 3 played to an island green. It is one of the clearest expressions of the course's water theme, but the wider property is also important for wildlife: the stream and ponds attract herons, grebes, swans and ducks. A round at Ptuj therefore combines a precise target over water with a living wetland landscape around the fairways.
