Overview: Opio Valbonne is a historic Riviera course set on a protected 220-hectare estate between Cannes, Nice and Grasse. Donald Harradine’s routing moves through gently rolling ground shaded by pines and holm oaks, with the front nine favoring precise approaches and the return opening into longer, more varied lines. The course combines a calm woodland atmosphere with a technical sequence of greens, while the surrounding resort and Provençal landscape remain visible without overwhelming the golf.
History: The course was inaugurated on 9 July 1966 under the name Golf de Valbonne. Donald Harradine designed the 18-hole layout, and the property adopted the name Opio-Valbonne in 1986 after its cadastral and administrative relationship with the commune of Opio was clarified. The course was renovated in 2002 and 2012, but its underlying Harradine routing and protected estate remain the basis of the present profile.
Did You Know? A Gallo-Roman aqueduct is integrated into the 220-hectare grounds, giving the course a piece of ancient infrastructure within its modern golf setting. The current regional press kit lists the course at par 72 and 5,698 metres, approximately 6,238 yards, with the 18th as a par-three finish above the resort brasserie.
