Overview: Golf Nazionale is an 18-hole par-72 course in the rolling countryside of Sutri, about 50 kilometres north of Rome. The exact directory routing is set among mature oak woodland, natural ravines and shifting elevations, with the land supplying much of the course's movement. Its broad fairways are interrupted by slopes, valleys and strategic sand, so a good round depends on controlling both direction and trajectory. The course is also home to the Italian Golf Federation's national school, giving the property a clear connection to national training as well as everyday golf.
History: The federation's account traces the project to a decision in the early 1980s to create a national technical centre. Land in the municipalities of Nepi and Sutri was selected in 1985, and George Fazio prepared the 18-hole design. Construction began in 1986, creating the full course alongside three practice holes. Current course references also credit Jim Fazio and David Mezzacane, so all three design roles are retained here rather than reducing the history to a single name. The course later hosted the 1991 World Cup, an important early event in its national-golf story.
Did You Know? Golf Nazionale was conceived not only as a course but as the home of the Italian Golf Federation's professional school. The original project therefore paired 18 playing holes with three additional practice holes, an unusually clear expression of the site's educational purpose and its role in developing high-level Italian golf.
