Overview: The directory identifies this routing as Barrière La Baule’s Lucien Barrière course, while the operator’s course sheet labels Lucien as Red. It is an 18-hole parkland loop in the Brière landscape, with mature trees, broad fairways and greens that ask for careful positioning rather than a single aggressive line. Because the facility contains several combinations and names have changed in directory data, the exact Lucien identity is more reliable than the Blue label alone.
History: The La Baule golf complex began in 1976 with a design by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas. Michel Gayon later revised the facility in 1993 and 2001, as the original 18 holes grew into a 27- and then 45-hole destination. The Lucien Barrière routing is consequently part of a multi-stage course history, combining the original design team with later work that shaped the current loops.
Did You Know? The operator’s current information sheet lists Lucien Barrière at 5,981 metres, approximately 6,556 yards, and par 72. It lists the Diane Barrière Desseigne loop separately at 6,197 metres, which explains the material distance difference between the two routings at the same facility.
