Overview: The directory identifies this routing as Barrière La Baule’s Diane Barrière Desseigne course, while the operator’s course sheet labels Diane as Blue. It is a parkland layout in the Brière area, where generous fairways, mature vegetation and carefully placed greens create a measured inland test close to the Atlantic coast. The full facility has several distinct loops, so the course name and routing should be checked against the current scorecard before treating the Red or Blue label as definitive.
History: Golf International Barrière La Baule was created in 1976 from a design by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas. Michel Gayon subsequently reworked the facility in 1993 and 2001 as it expanded from its original 18 holes to a larger multi-course complex. The Diane Barrière Desseigne loop is therefore part of a continuing site history rather than an untouched 1976 routing, and its modern identity reflects both the original designers and later changes.
Did You Know? The current operator sheet describes the Diane loop as an 18-hole par-72 course measuring 6,197 metres, approximately 6,777 yards. The same sheet lists a separate Lucien Barrière loop at 5,981 metres, which is why the two directory labels should not be treated as interchangeable.
