Overview: Situated near the shores of Lake Maggiore in the southern Swiss canton of Ticino, Golf Gerre Losone is a flat, 18-hole parkland course designed by Peter Harradine. Nestled in a valley between the Melezza River and local hillsides, the layout is characterized by narrow fairways, well-placed sand traps, and a series of lakes and winding streams. The course demands accurate ball placement and strategic club selection to navigate water hazards that come into play on multiple holes.
History: Opened in 2001, the course was envisioned as a top-tier sporting venue to bring high-profile professional competition to the region. Harradine transformed the flat alluvial plain of the Maggia valley into a highly strategic playing field. From 2006 to 2012, Golf Gerre Losone hosted the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open on the Ladies European Tour. In recent years, the club has received international environmental certifications, including GEO and Swisstainable, for its eco-friendly turf management practices.
Did You Know? The facility features a specialized 3-hole practice academy course alongside its driving range and pitching greens, which is designed for junior players and beginners. The course also features custom-engineered irrigation systems that draw water from adjacent alluvial aquifers to maintain the playing surfaces throughout the hot Ticino summers.
