Overview: The La Canne course at Golf des Aisses is a stunning, beautifully maintained 9-hole layout nestled in the heart of the historic Sologne region in La Ferté-Saint-Aubin, France. Winding through dense pine forests, heather, and sand waste areas, La Canne forms a key part of the highly acclaimed 27-hole Sologne golfing paradise. Rebuilt in a traditional British heathland style, it offers wide, inviting fairways, artistic bunkering, and subtly contoured green complexes that run fast and firm, presenting a peaceful, organic test of golf.
History: Originally opened in 1992 and designed by Olivier Brizon, the entire 27-hole complex underwent a massive, multi-million dollar transformation led by renowned English architect Martin Hawtree between 2009 and 2011. Hawtree cleared out dense scrubland and restored the natural sandy terrain and heather, successfully elevating the complex to a world-class Sologne destination. The 9-hole La Canne loop was meticulously refined to complement the premier 18-hole championship Les Aisses routing, preserving the architectural purity of Hawtree's minimalist philosophy.
Did You Know? The Sologne region is historically famous as the hunting ground of French royalty, and the golf course sits in a peaceful, protected nature reserve where wild boar, deer, and diverse local birds are frequently seen by players. Because of the exceptionally sandy subsoil, the course drains remarkably well, maintaining dry, firm-running inland-links style conditions even after heavy Sologne rainfall.
