Overview: As the historic pioneer of golf tourism in Southern Tenerife, Golf del Sur is a spectacular desert-style course that has hosted the world’s elite for decades. Originally designed by the creative visionary Pepe Gancedo in 1987 and later refined by Manuel Piñero, the course is a visual masterclass characterized by wide, undulating fairways and its signature black volcanic sand bunkers. Following its transition to a dedicated 18-hole championship routing comprised of the North and Links nines, the par-72 course continues to offer a rigorous but fair test against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and Mount Teide. Strategic water hazards on the early holes and the ever-present trade winds demand thoughtful navigation, making every round a dynamic experience in a quintessentially Canarian landscape.
Did You Know? The course has a storied tournament pedigree, having hosted multiple editions of the European Tour’s Tenerife Open, where legends like José María Olazábal have triumphed. It was also the site of one of the most famous exhibition matches in golf history, the 1995 "Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf" showdown between Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson. Beyond its professional history, the course holds a place in the record books as the venue where Karl Woodward set two world records for the longest drive, a testament to the fast, volcanic terrain that defines the Golf del Sur experience.
