Overview: Les Étangs is the 18-hole course at Lyon Salvagny, set on a 72-hectare property in the Monts du Lyonnais west of the city. The routing uses woodland, rolling ground and numerous ponds to create a varied parkland round. Water is not simply a finishing decoration: it influences several lines of play and makes the approach strategy as important as the drive. The course’s identity is a balance between open landing areas and demanding green approaches.
History: Lyon Salvagny was developed as a modern golf facility in the late 1980s, and the target record dates the Les Étangs course to 1988. Peter Harradine is retained as the architect attribution in the course record. The club later became part of the Lyon amateur competition scene, including the Derby de Lyon, whose results show Salvagny winning the event repeatedly during the 1990s and 2000s.
Did You Know? The French federation scorecard lists Les Étangs at par 72 and 6,133 metres from the longest listed tees, approximately 6,719 yards. The property also includes a nine-hole compact course, so the 18-hole Les Étangs routing should not be confused with the club’s shorter practice loop.
