Overview: Les Longères is the 18-hole companion course at Golf de Chantilly in Vineuil-Saint-Firmin, set within the wooded and historic landscape of the Chantilly estate. The routing is a parkland contrast to the club's famous Vineuil course, with tree-lined fairways, shaped ground and a quieter sequence of holes. It is a course where positioning and approach angles matter, especially when the surrounding woodland narrows the useful line into a green. The Longères name is tied to the local landscape, while the course itself shares the club's distinctive combination of golf, forest and French sporting heritage. Its appeal is not based on grand claims or one dramatic hole, but on the way a complete second 18-hole route fits into the same carefully preserved setting.
History: Golf de Chantilly was founded in 1909 at the initiative of Baron Edouard de Rothschild, and the original course was designed by John Henry Taylor. Tom Simpson later renovated that course after the First World War, creating the Vineuil character for which Chantilly became known. The club added a nine-hole Longères course in 1951, then extended it to a full 18 holes in 1991. That date is the relevant opening point for the ranked Longères routing. The club's history therefore separates the Simpson-era Vineuil work from the later Longères course, which is associated with Donald Steel in the course record.
Did You Know? Chantilly hosted its first Open de France in 1913, only four years after the club was formed, and the event returned repeatedly across the twentieth century. The Longères course is part of that wider competitive setting even though its 18-hole routing is much newer than the club's original Vineuil course.
