Overview: La Mer at Omaha Beach Golf Club runs across the Normandy coast near the D-Day beaches, with open slopes, sea views and the historic landscape of Port-en-Bessin-Huppain around it. Yves Bureau’s routing uses the movement of the ground to create changing stances and approaches, while the coastal exposure gives the holes a different feel in calm and windy conditions. The course is more open than the neighboring Bocage layout and makes its views part of the playing experience.
History: Guy Dupont developed the golf from his former farm. The first nine, L’Étang, took shape in 1986, and the 18-hole La Mer and Bocage routings followed in 1987, when the club house also opened. Yves Bureau designed the courses, and the family history records the later addition of the nine-hole Manoir in 2006. This profile is specifically for La Mer, not the 1986 nine-hole starting point or the later Manoir loop.
Did You Know? Every hole at Omaha Beach carries the name of an American veteran or a battle connected with the liberation of Normandy. The club has also hosted the 1989 national omnium and the 2004 French Open Seniors, linking the memorial setting to the history of competitive golf.
