Overview: Albi Lasbordes is laid out on the grounds of the historic Lasbordes estate beside an oxbow of the Tarn. The course occupies a former quarry and uses the change between open ground, water and the surrounding château landscape to give the round a strong sense of place. Its parkland character is strategic rather than decorative: several holes bring water into the decision, while the greens and fairway contours ask for a measured approach instead of a single aggressive line.
History: A local group began developing the project in the late 1980s, and the 18-hole course opened in 1989. Jeremy Pern is credited with the design, working with French professional Jean Garaïalde. The collaboration connected a modern course-design practice with one of France’s most accomplished golfers, and the resulting layout became a significant golfing venue in the southwest.
Did You Know? The course was built in an exhausted quarry on the grounds of an old château and sits beneath views of Albi’s fortified cathedral. Jeremy Pern’s own project description presents the water hazards as a deliberate choice between the safe fairway and the more demanding line, a fitting idea for a course shaped by a former extraction site.
