Overview: Golf & Country Club Castello di Spessa is an 18-hole parkland course in Capriva del Friuli, within the Collio wine country of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The official course specification gives par 71 and 5,460 metres, approximately 5,974 yards. The layout has an old-school parkland character, but the fairways change enough across the property to make the round feel like three different courses. Vineyards, low hills and the Castello di Spessa estate provide the setting, while the current resort combines golf with wine, restaurants and accommodation.
History: The golf project dates to 2005, and the resort brochure identifies architect Giacomo Cabrini. The course sits within a much older estate: the castle’s history records Roman-era activity on the site, a medieval castle dating to the thirteenth century and later visits by Giacomo Casanova and Lorenzo Da Ponte. The golf course therefore belongs to a modern sporting layer of a historic property rather than replacing the estate’s earlier identity. Current resort material presents the 18-hole course as open every day and bookable through the club’s reservation channels.
Did You Know? Every hole is named after a wine from the Castello di Spessa estate. The names are not an incidental theme, because the routing moves through the Collio landscape and the club positions golf alongside wine tastings, restaurants and walks through the vineyards. The course also sits at about 80 metres above sea level, giving it a mild setting that the operator specifically associates with the possibility of playing through the winter months.
