Overview: Golf Club Skalica is an 18-hole links-style course in the historic royal town of Skalica, close to the Czech border and the vineyards of the western Slovak lowlands. Hans-Georg Erhardt designed the course with open playing corridors, rolling fairways, heavy rough, bunkering and five lakes that bring water into the strategy. The official EGA profile describes an 85-hectare championship course and gives a white-tee length of 6,180 metres, while the directory records approximately 7,193 yards from its longest listed tees. Wind is a recurring part of the design, so an apparently open hole can change character when the direction shifts. Views toward Skalica and the surrounding vineyards reinforce the course’s regional identity.
History: The Grafobal Group Golf Resort Skalica opened its 18-hole course in 2009 after the practice facilities had already begun to establish the site. Hans-Georg Erhardt’s design was built in a links style inspired by the strategic traditions of Britain and Ireland, but the setting remains distinctly Slovak, with the royal town, vineyards and White Carpathian landscape close by. The resort’s development also included a long practice ground, putting and chipping areas, and a clubhouse, creating a complete golf destination rather than an isolated course. Its early history is therefore a story of turning a local training project into a full championship facility.
Did You Know? Five lakes sit within the Skalica property, and the EGA notes that nine holes are designed in their proximity. The water is therefore not a single finishing feature added for drama, but a recurring part of the routing. The combination of those lakes, high rough and changing wind is what gives the open links-style ground its sharper strategic edge.
