Overview: Golf Club Playa Dorada is an 18-hole, par-72 course in the Playa Dorada complex near Puerto Plata. The current operator credits Robert Trent Jones Sr., gives a 7,000-yard total and says the course was created in 1979. Five holes have ocean views, while the routing also moves through palms, wetlands, taller trees and low coastal rough. Wide fairways, generous greens, water and strategically placed bunkers give the course a classic resort shape without hiding its Caribbean setting.
History: The current Playa Dorada course page dates the course to 1979 and presents it as an 18-hole Jones design. An older Dominican tourism guide gives 1978 as the opening date, so 1979 is used here as the current operator's stated creation year and the discrepancy is recorded rather than concealed. The evidence consistently identifies the same Puerto Plata course, its Jones design and its par-72 18-hole routing.
Did You Know? The course's shoreline influence appears in more than the headline view. The operator identifies five ocean-view holes, a par-three seventh and twelfth affected by sea wind, and a seventeenth protected by both water and bunkers. Across the round, the vegetation shifts from wetlands and palms to rough growth along the beach, creating a changing coastal edge around the hotel complex.
