Overview: Golf & Ski Resort Ostravice is a mountain parkland course at the foot of Žár Mountain, framed by the Beskydy peaks Lysá hora and Smrk. Chris Johnson designed the 18-hole layout to work with the natural valley, combining broad rolling fairways, forest edges, large greens and three hectares of water. The changing mountain views give the course a strong sense of place, while the mix of elevation and hazards creates a demanding but readable round.
History: Construction took place over three years, with the first nine holes entering operation at the end of June 2008. The full 18-hole championship course opened a month later, in August 2008, and became the centrepiece of a wider sport and leisure resort. Johnson’s design and the careful shaping of the site were intended to support both serious competition and a more relaxed mountain holiday experience.
Did You Know? Ostravice is designed as a year-round destination rather than a golf-only property. The same Beskydy setting that provides the course’s mountain views becomes a winter landscape for skiing and other outdoor activities, giving the resort a seasonal rhythm that is unusual among Czech championship courses.
