Overview: Golden Ocala’s original 18-hole course in Ocala combines central Florida parkland with a playful architectural tribute to famous golf holes. Ron Garl created the layout in 1986, using pine and oak, lakes and broad corridors to build a par 72 course that measures 7,040 yards from the black tees on the published scorecard. Eight holes echo recognizable ideas from celebrated venues, while the remaining holes use the local landscape on its own terms. The result is a varied round rather than a collection of replicas.
History: Golden Ocala began as a public course in 1986 and later became part of a larger private golf and equestrian club. Garl’s original design remains the foundation of the 18-hole layout, while later improvements and the growth of the surrounding equestrian property changed the character of the overall facility. Tournament records continue to list Ron Garl as the architect and identify Golden Ocala as a par 72 venue for Florida championship play.
Did You Know? The course’s tribute holes are designed as ideas rather than exact copies. Players may recognize a reference in the shape of a green, the direction of a hole or the way a hazard frames an approach, but the Florida ground still controls the final result. That balance lets Golden Ocala celebrate golf history while keeping the round tied to Ocala’s own landscape.
