Overview: Walkers Beach frames Gerringong’s coastal 18-hole round beside Walkers Beach on the NSW South Coast. The setting gives the round an immediate sense of place: sea air, open headland views and the changing light over the beach sit alongside fairways shaped through native ground. The course is known for a relaxed public-club atmosphere, but the exposed location means wind and lie quality can change the best strategy from one day to the next. It is an obvious stop for golfers touring the Kiama and Shoalhaven coastline.
History: The course grew through local effort rather than a single resort construction project. Al Howard developed the original concept, volunteers helped with construction, the back nine came into play on 16 December 1989, and the completed 18-hole course officially opened on 29 May 1993. That sequence explains why Gerringong feels like a community course with a destination setting: its identity was built gradually by the people who wanted golf beside the beach.
Did You Know? Gerringong’s official history gives a precise date for the completed course opening,29 May 1993,but also records the back nine opening more than three years earlier. The distinction is a reminder that the current 18 holes were assembled in stages rather than delivered all at once.
