Overview: Germiston Country Club brings old-school Johannesburg golf to the edge of Victoria Lake. The 18-hole parkland course is framed by mature woodland, Kikuyu fairways and smaller Bentgrass greens, with water and established trees shaping the lines of play. It is not built around resort spectacle or extreme length. Instead, the interest comes from the way the course asks for a sensible tee shot, a precise approach and enough patience to accept that the safest route is not always the most obvious one.
History: Germiston Golf Club dates to 1897 and remains one of the older clubs in the Gauteng golf landscape. The course is credited to W.B. Wright and retains the feel of a traditional parklands layout rather than a recently manufactured estate course. Its setting beside Victoria Lake and its mature vegetation give the club a strong sense of continuity, while successive generations of golfers have kept the facility part of the wider Ekurhuleni playing circuit.
Did You Know? Germiston is widely known as “The Gem in Germiston”, a nickname that reflects the contrast between the urban setting and the greenery around the course. The layout is a par 72 from the main men’s tees, but the scorecard offers several tee options, allowing the same lake-side holes to feel quite different depending on the day’s setup.
