Overview: The Lakes Course at Genoa Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 links-style layout on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada in Genoa, Nevada. Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III shaped the course across the Carson Valley, where rolling fairways meet wetlands, the Carson River and broad mountain views. The current gold-tee scorecard measures 7,359 yards, and the operator says water comes into play on 14 holes. Wildlife, open ground and water edges give the course a distinctly valley-based character rather than a conventional tree-lined mountain layout.
History: Genoa Lakes was developed in the early 1990s and the Lakes Course opened in July 1993. It became the first of the two Genoa Lakes routings, followed by the separate Ranch Course two miles away. The course’s early reputation was strengthened by its place in the Carson Valley golf scene and by later U.S. Open qualifying, which the current operator still identifies as part of the Lakes Course story. The two-course club now distinguishes the Lakes layout by its wetlands and wildlife from the Ranch’s more desert-oriented setting.
Did You Know? The operator’s current description says that lakes and the winding Carson River bring water into play on 14 holes. That is more than a decorative backdrop: it explains why the Lakes Course can look open from the tee yet still demand careful decisions around wetland edges, river corridors and the approach to each green.
