Overview: Gatineau Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole public course in Gatineau, close to the Ottawa River and the Ottawa-Gatineau urban area. The current course record lists par 70 and 6,330 yards. The club describes the layout as a balance of challenge and fairness, with generous fairways and a sequence of holes designed to invite another round rather than punish every imperfect shot. Five par 3s bring water into play near their greens, giving the course a distinctive target-golf rhythm within an otherwise playable public design.
History: The club’s roots reach back to the Hull Country Club and the late 1920s. Local history records the Gatineau Golf and Country Club name from 1929, while the current property later passed through several ownership and management phases. After a major transformation, the club officially reopened in 2012 with a new layout and clubhouse. Flagstick credits Canadian architect Graham Cooke and superintendent Stan Brigham with the modern championship course. The 2012 date is used here for the current routing, not as a replacement for the club’s earlier history.
Did You Know? The course grew out of a social club culture that once included a large entertainment venue as well as golf. Local historical research records performers such as Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway and Josephine Baker appearing at the former nightclub associated with the property. Today the emphasis is firmly on golf, but that unusual connection helps explain why Gatineau has long been more than a simple out-of-town course.
