Overview: Fujizakura Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 mountain course in the northern foothills of Mount Fuji, in Yamanashi’s Fuji Five Lakes region. The club sits at roughly 1,000 metres, and its current scorecard lists 6,951 yards from the back tees; the tournament markers extend to 7,645 yards. Forested ridges, native vegetation, demanding rough and carefully defended greens give the layout a distinct highland character. Mount Fuji is visible from most holes, while the 15th and 16th provide especially clear examples of how the mountain setting and water hazards shape the strategy.
History: The Fuji Kanko Kaihatsu company history records Fujizakura Country Club opening in October 1975. The Japan Golf Tour identifies Noriyuki Miyoshi as the designer, correcting the former Kobayashi attribution in this profile. A major renovation was completed in April 2005, after which the club became the host venue for the Fujisankei Classic from that year onward. That tournament history explains the gap between the everyday back-tee total and the much longer tournament setup now shown on the club’s official scorecard.
Did You Know? Fujizakura’s scorecard has an unusual tournament detail: the tournament tees on the fifth hole change that hole from a par five to a par four. The regular back-tee course totals par 72, but the tournament configuration totals par 71. The same scorecard lists separate Tour, Back, Regular, Gold and Ladies yardages, showing how substantially the course can change with its tee setup.
