Overview: Fuji Country brings a mature 18-hole test at par 72 to Shizuoka, where every hole is presented with a view toward Mount Fuji. Shiro Akaboshi designed the routing, which the club lists at 6,832 yards. The site uses natural elevation and existing vegetation rather than a theatrical resort landscape, and the official description emphasises hand-finished terrain, trees and birdlife. A player can therefore enjoy the scenery without losing sight of the course's central demand: controlling the ball through a varied parkland setting.
History: The first nine opened provisionally in April 1958 and the full 18-hole course was completed and opened on August 16 of that year. The club's official history also records the clubhouse's architectural connection with Antonin Raymond. Those dates describe the current routing's origin, separate from later maintenance and improvement work, and place Fuji Country among Japan's post-war courses with a long continuous identity.
Did You Know? The official course features page highlights the 13th as a downhill hole with a 57-metre change in elevation. That is not just a scenic statistic: it changes club selection, landing angle and the way the approach is judged. The course's Fuji views are constant, but the most memorable details often come from how the land changes beneath the ball.
