Overview: Fox Ridge Golf Club in Auburn is an 18-hole course spread across more than 200 acres of rolling southern Maine countryside. Native fescue, brooks, old stone walls and stone bridges give the property a strong local character, while the routing combines uphill and downhill holes, right and left doglegs and optional water lines. The course is classified here as parkland, but its open grass, natural drainage and variety of lies give it some links-influenced visual qualities. A distinctive island green adds a focal point, yet the broader design is about offering different strategic choices on many holes rather than relying on one feature.
History: Fox Ridge was planned as a larger daily-fee project around the turn of the century, with construction beginning after the Auburn site was selected. The 18-hole course opened in 2001. The official club profile identifies C. Lennie Myshrall as architect and Geoffrey Cornish as consulting architect, while course-industry reporting also credits Myshrall, Paul Lessard and superintendent Ed Michaud with building the layout. This collaborative history is more dependable than the older target attribution to Dan Maples, which is not supported by the course’s own current information.
Did You Know? Fox Ridge’s official course description identifies its island green as the only one in Maine. It also says that the property’s stone walls, bridges, wooded areas and open land provide enough variety for the course to double as a scenic walk even away from the playing lines.
