Overview: Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown, Maryland, is a historic parkland course designed by Donald Ross. Winding through the rolling hills of western Maryland, the course features Ross's signature undulating green complexes, deep sand bunkers, and tree-lined fairways. The layout demands precise placement off the tee to ensure clear approaches to the small, heavily protected greens, making it a classic test of accuracy and short-game skill.
History: Established in 1924, the course is one of the few surviving Donald Ross designs in Maryland that has preserved its original routing. In 2004, architect Brian Silva led a restoration project that reconstructed the bunkers and greens to match Ross's original sketches and design notes.
Did You Know? The course is named after the historic limestone spring that flows through the property, which serves as a natural water hazard on several holes and a source of irrigation for the turf. This spring has provided water to the surrounding agricultural community since the eighteenth century.
